Kogi Election: Adeyemi defeats Melaye with over 4k votes

Adeyemi polled a total of 8,265 votes, while Melaye got a total of 2,585 votes.

Smart Adeyemi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged with the highest votes in the Kogi West rerun election between him and Senator Dino Melaye.

Although, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not declared him winner of the election, Adeyemi polled a total of 8,265 votes, while Melaye got a total of 2,585 votes.
This is the third time the senatorial election will be held for the two candidates to determine who’ll represent the Kogi West senatorial district.
Recall that in August, election tribunal sacked Melaye after an application by Adeyemi that there were irregularities during the senatorial election held in February 2019.
Adeyemi had challenged Melaye’s victory in the election arguing that there were over-voting and non-compliance with the electoral act.
On Saturday, November 16, 2019, a fresh election was conducted as ordered by tribunal alongside gubernatorial election in the state.
The November 16 rerun was declared inconclusive because it was riddled with violence and killings.
